Overview

At work, when people look at my screen and see it full of code, it is not unusual to get a comment about it looking very complicated or how clever I must be to understand it. The truth is, it is not that hard to learn how to write web pages and read the code used to create them. You certainly don’t have to be a professional “programmer” to be able to do that.

HTML and CSS is the basic and core foundation of any web pages. Understanding HTML and CSS can help anyone who works with the web. Designers can create more attractive and usable sites, website editors can create content, marketers can communicate with their audience more effectively, and managers can commission better sites and get the best out of their teams.

This workshop allows participants to incorporate the best practices and creative techniques in creating a webpage. The course focused on the codes that are commonly used by the industry practitioners. It will also cover practical information on topics commonly asked about, such as how to prepare images, audio and video for the web, how to approach the design and build of a new site, how to improve your rankings in search engines (SEO) and many more.

This course provides live instructor-led demonstration and discussions, student engagement and on-the- spot hands on exercises using Zoom, Google Classroom, Code Pen and Visual Studio Code. To assure a controlled and conducive class learning experience, media materials like photos shall be provided to the students prior to the sessions. A design brief will be given to the students to accomplish.

Course Outline

Prerequisite:

Open to anyone interested to learn basic web coding.

Requirements:

Students must have the following: Zoom application, Gmail account (for Google Classroom), Google Chrome Browser, Code Pen free account, Visual Studio Code and a stable internet connection. Advisable for the students to have a dual monitor set-up however will not be mandatory.
