Overview

The Photography NC II Qualification consists of competencies that a person must achieve to take pictures of people, places, objects, and events and tries to artistically capture and evoke a mood, feeling, or drama surrounding a particular subject using a camera.   The work of a photographer is not only limited to the actual use of the camera and proper lighting, but also includes all the steps in the development of the image up to the presentation of the final product.

CORE UNIT OF COMPETENCY 1: OPERATE CAMERA AND COMPOSE A SUBJECT

Module 1 Title: Operating a Camera and Composing a Subject

Overview

This is the first of four modules in the Core Unit of Competency in Photography NCII.

By the end of this module, you should be able to properly operate your camera, have a solid understanding of the basic principles in photography, and compose visually pleasing photos to help you execute the images you (or your clients) envision.

This module is perfect for:

  • those with or without knowledge in photography
  • photography enthusiasts
  • serious hobbyists or industry practitioners who wish to have a formal training
  • those who are considering a career as a photographer.

CORE UNIT OF COMPETENCY 2: SET UP STUDIO LIGHTS, EQUIPMENT, AND ACCESSORIES

Module 2 Title: Set Up Studio Lights, Equipment, and Accessories

Overview

This is the second of four modules in the Core Unit of Competency in Photography NCII.

In this module, you will learn the fundamentals of using studio flash, basic lighting principles, studio photography equipment, common lighting patterns, and three-point lighting technique—all geared toward helping you create professional-grade photographs. Although this is more focused on capturing studio portraits, the principles and techniques discussed here can be applied in various types of subjects.

This module is perfect for photography enthusiasts with knowledge in basic photography who:

  • wish to have a formal training on shooting with studio lights
  • those who are considering a career as a photographer.

Module 4 Title: Presenting Finished Product

Overview

This are the third and fourth of four modules in the Core Unit of Competency in Photography NCII.

In the film photography era, the negatives had to be developed and printed. Retouching of images at that time could be done during the developing stage in the darkroom and/or after the images had been printed. Now that digital photography is used in the industry, the workflow has slightly changed—the retouching or editing of photos are done digitally in the computer before they are printed.

In these modules, you will learn the post-capture processing workflow in digital photography—from downloading your images, organizing your image files, selecting and creating proof sheets for your photos for client presentation, globally enhancing your images, basic portrait retouching, and delivering your final product to your client.

This module is perfect for photography enthusiasts with knowledge in photography who:

  • wish to have a formal training on basic portrait retouching using Adobe Photoshop
  • are considering a career as a photographer
  • are considering a career as a portrait retoucher

Duration: 200 hours (25 days)

(COC 2) MODULE 2 : Set Up Studio Lights, Equipment, and Accessories

Overview

This is the second of four modules in the Core Unit of Competency in Photography NCII.

  • Must own or have access to basic photography studio equipment:
    • At least 2 units of studio strobes or compact flash
    • At least 2 units of diffusing light modifiers (ex. softbox)
    • At least 2 units of light stands
    • Flash trigger compatible with the studio strobes or compact flash
    • Indoor area for shooting
  • Must have stable internet connection
  • Device with good audio and video, and Zoom application

Certificate of Competency and Training Certificate

The following certificates are awarded to the learners:

  • Photography NCII Training Certificate (TESDA-issued) – learner has successfully completed ALL the Basic, Common, and Core Units of Competencies
  • Certificate of Competency (PCCI-issued) :
    1. Basic Competency – learner has successfully completed all the Basic Units of Competency
    2. Common Competency – learner has successfully completed all the Basic Units of Competency
    3. Operate Camera and Compose a Subject - learner has successfully completed the first Core Unit of Competency
    4. Set Up Studio Lights, Equipment, and Accessories - learner has successfully completed the second Core Unit of Competency
    5. Perform Post-Capture Processing - learner has successfully completed the third Core Units of Competency.
    6. Present Finished Product - learner has successfully completed the fourth Core Units of Competency.

National Assessment and National Certificate

The National Assessment for Photography NCII focuses on the core units of competency.  The basic and common units shall be integrated or assessed concurrently with the core units.

A candidate who is assessed as “Competent” for all units of competencies will be given the Photography National Certificate Level II.
